FOF #891 - Christmas with Peaches - 12.04.08
By Fausto Fernós on December 4, 2008 | Share & Save | Link | Print |
Merry Christmas! Ho ho ho. For many the mere thought of the holiday season is enough to send chills down your spine.
Christmas films expose our anxieties and our desires around the pressure from both our families and society which urges us to spend, spend, spend. Whether it’s time or money, we are spending something and in the end, we feel helpless and worn out!
We love it, we hate it, it brings us joy and makes us miserable. Christmas time is here!
On today’s show San Francisco’s movie maven Peaches Christ joins us to share with us fabulous Christmas themed movies every gay man must see.
Santa is often central to many Christmas themed movies as complex symbol for good and evil and we wonder if his role is that the ultimate stalker. After all, he sees you when you’re sleeping, he knows when you’re awake. Why does he not have any other hobbies?
We ask what is the true meaning of Christmas anyway? Is it people, presents or is it murder and mayhem?
Join us as we talk about A Christmas Story, the Mexican Santa Claus Movie, and the evil Joan Collins fighting a murderous Santa Claus in the Tales from the Crypt video to the right. It is so campy and 70s, you’ll love it.
Also, other horror films that take place during the holidays- The Shining, Black Christmas and Jack Frost which is about a murderous snowman.
And, Marc’s favorite movies for the Christmas season which feature women having strange babies or the mysterious pregnancies such as in The Omen, Rosemary’s Baby, or the video trailer to the right which features Barbara Eden as a woman who is about to give birth to a baby alien. If anyone has a video of The Stranger With In, we’d love to borrow it.
Merry Christmas and please survive the holidays-don’t drink and drive.

Christmas is just around the corner, so we got our friend, America’s Lesbian Comic Sweetheart, Cameron Esposito, a Lesbian Sex cook book- Lesbian Sex: 101 Lovemaking Positions
Just what she’s always wanted. A manual on nagging her girlfriend for more sex.
Cameron’s busy getting ready for her tour to the UK and South Africa. Make sure to check out her site for the tour schedule.
Cameron is also working on sitcom pilot based on her comedy and we wonder if there will there be room for a persnickety Puerto Rican neighbor and his oafish boyfriend?
Check out the the video to the right for some of Cameron’s Stand up at the Sarcastic Squad. You can totally hear Marc and I laughing in the background.
Listen as we chat about German male convicts getting their prison budget extended for free makeup. Yes, it’s a matter of equal rights, if woman can have an allowance for makeup then so can men.
Condoleeza Rice played the piano for the queen of England, but the queen didn’t hear the whole performance so we have to wonder if she was any good. She’s a trained concert pianist but she’s also the Secretary of State and she’s not very good at that.
Was she as good as Sarah the Saxophone Playing Walrus? Well, the walrus doesn’t actually play the sax but she looks like she’s having fun doing it.
Micro transactions might be a sign of terrible tings to come. If you notice small charges between $.19-.39 on credit card account, scam artists may be testing it to see if the card is good before they go for the big charge once your card proves valid.

The ultimate lesbian love story is a straight couple from California that manage to wear matching outfits every day, and on special occasions they both wear tuxedos. She ebven wears men’s shirts to exactly match hers.

Have a Happy Macarena Christmas
By Fausto Fernós on December 2, 2008 | Share & Save | Link | Print |
Remember Spanish Duo Los Del Rio’s insane one hit wonder “Macarena?” In case you forgot it, here’s their attempt to cash in the popularity of their song by releasing a Christmas version complete with a Spice Girls knock-off. ¡Ay Macarena!
Not sure why the song ends with a baby giggle.

Thanksgiving has come and gone, but we’re stuck with a fridge full of delicious food, the only problem is it’s all TURKEY.
What do you do with leftovers when the holidays have come and gone? You can really only eat so much Turkey Tetrazinni.
On today’s show our good friend blogger Michael “too legit to quit” Lehet joins us to talk about the movie, Milk, starring Sean Penn as Harvey Milk, the first openly gay publicly elected official.
Will Sean Penn get an Oscar nod? Why didn’t we see James Franco’s prosthetic penis? And which famous San Francisco drag queen was chewing gum during a pivotal scene?
The aftermath of the last election leaves many queer people in this country feeling anxious and that little has changed since the 1970s. It can feel like we’ve not come a long way, baby.
But the greatest atrocity this week was Rosie Live, Rosie O’Donnell’s attempt at reviving the television variety show was dead on arrival. Why Rosie, why? We love the 70s variety show genre and we hope someone else can revive it. Please don’t let Rosie be the last nail in the coffin. Create your own podcast sidekick with the virtual Rosie (Riding the Bus with My Sister) soundboard.
The fabulous fundraiser- World of Chocolate happens this Wednesday Dec 3, in Chicago will Michael find his true love at this delicious event?
Join us as we talk about why John Barrowman is always welcome on the Feast of Fools and why Boy George isn’t. Plus, dangerous boobs, gay penguins and prehistoric marijuana found in an ancient tomb. We wonder if can you smoke it?
The canary in the cave mine of crazy- Feast of Fools.

FOFA #662 - Ting A Ling - 12.01.08
By Marc Felion on November 30, 2008 | Share & Save | Link | Print |
Ask not for whom the bells jingle, they jingle for thee.
What is up with Christmas themed music and that annoying, repetitive jingle you hear in almost every song out there? You know what I’m talking about, that jing-a-ling that makes even my ting-a-ling mind go batty with holiday-themed anxiety.
On today’s show Marc and I talk about the historical significance of bells during the holiday season and why they seem to be everywhere during the winter months. What is it with those sleigh bells ring a ding ding-a-ling-ding? How did they come to be synonymous with the holidays?
Any song can be turned into a Christmas song just by adding some jingling bells into the beat! Grab a tambourine and try it on ANY song as long as it’s in 4/4 or 2/2. (Waltzes and polkas don’t work.)
One Christmas themed music CD that definitively rocks is Darlene Love’s “It’s Christmas, Of Course.” You might remember her as the sassy diva singing “Christmastime for the Jews” on Saturday Night Live or playing the role of Motor-mouth Maybellene in Hairspray the Musical.
We’re just smitten with these cute, adorable kitty cat wigs! Kittywigs.com sells wigs specially made for your cat (or small dog) to wear. Now you can now start dressing your tabby up as Cher, Tina or Madonna have have your very own purrfect cat drag shows, as it should be.
Be sure to check out their own flickr photo group of other pet owners dressing up their pets in fabulous wigs.
Lost your glove? A performance artist living in Pittsburgh has started her own website to help match lost gloves with their owners, in a good will effort to save people some bucks and keep their hands warm this winter season.
Listen as we talk about Sesame Street releasing their classic shows on DVD but choosing to label them and promote them “for adults only,” Jeff Scheidemantel the crystal meth-making High School Chemistry teacher and our past guest, Russian gay rights activist Nikolai Alexeyev getting arrested for voting, we presume.

FOFA #829 - Stoking the Fire - 11.28.08
By Marc Felion on November 27, 2008 | Share & Save | Link | Print |
Rick Stokes did what almost every gay man in Kansas did back in the 1950s- he got married to a woman. His wife knew that he had a number of gay experiences before they got married but whether it was naivety or wishful thinking, they thought his desire for a gay life would go away.
When his desires wouldn’t abate, his family, his wife and his in-laws convinced him to undergo electro shock therapy to cure him. After many treatments and with no guarantee of success, Rick opted out of this unusual treatment and ended his marriage. But he says later it was the kick in the pants he needed to help him to chase his own rainbow colored dreams.
He moved to Sacramento, CA to find the man who he would eventually spend 35 years with. Along with his partner, Rick formed the Association for Responsible Citizenship (ARC) to provide social interaction and to promote pro-gay action.
They group provided a place for people to feel good about being gay and to accomplish pro gay activities. One such activity was to raise awareness about STDs like gonorrhea or syphilis which were very common but were little understood by gay men or even by their doctors.
The pair eventually moved to San Francisco and became involved in the gay scene. Having acquired a law degree, Rick became well known as the “go to” guy if you got busted by the police for what were punishable offenses back in the day. Often times, people arrested for what was considered lewd behavior pleaded down to a lesser crime in order to reduce the risk of being found out and losing work. Rick convinced people to not “plead out” their cases but to go to trail. Eventually, the court system figured out that they weren’t go to win any of these cases so the police stopped targeting gay men.
Rick later ran against Harvey Milk for Supervisor seat in 1977 and lost. He will be portrayed by in the upcoming film “Milk” by Stephen Spinella, an openly gay actor known for his role in Angels in America and Spring Awakening on Broadway.
Listen as we talk with Rick about the horrors of being electrocuted in attempts to change your sexuality, working for gay rights in America at a time when being gay as illegal and where we are all headed in our fight for sexual diversity.

FOF #887 - Inventions Gone Wild - 11.25.08
By Fausto Fernós on November 25, 2008 | Share & Save | Link | Print |
If necessity is the mother of invention, then drag queens are the children of finding a shortcut to looking fabulous!
When Teri Yaki isn’t busy entertaining audiences in Chicago, she buries herself in her basement coming up with real-life inventions to patent, with hopes of making enough money one day to own her own nightclub.
Hailing from Detroit, Teri Yaki can fix a car blindfolded, hot glue herself a dress in seconds and make a one-hitter out of a tube of lipstick.
Think of Teri Yaki as Ron Popeil in drag. She’s actually come up with some remarkable ideas, including a mouse trap that plays a song whenever it catches it’s prey!
Will mousetrap jingles replace cell phone ringtones in the future as revenue sources for the music industry?
Listen as we talk with Teri Yaki about the nostalgia of Thanksgiving, the Chinese karaoke cab driver, the dangers of hairspray, and the Vatican gives a posthumous pardon to musician John Lennon for saying the Beatles were more popular than Jesus in 1966. Been a long time coming!
At least they didn’t wait over 400 years to forgive him, like they did with Galileo.
On Halloween, Oct. 31 1992, Pope John Paul II expressed regret for how the Galileo affair was handled, and officially conceded that the Earth was not stationary, as the result of a study conducted by the Pontifical Council for Culture. Galileo spent the last days of his life under house arrest for daring to suggest that the Earth revolved around the sun.
More popular than Proposition 8 is with queer people- Feast of Fools.

Gobble gobble! What better way to celebrate Thanksgiving than with Tracy Tyler, our fabulous trannie gal pal from the suburbs of Chicago.
Tracy’s here to find the true meaning of Thanksgiving- is it being grateful? friends? Family? Or is it the food?
Listen to today’s show for some fabulous new ideas on preparing the classic Thanksgiving dinner!
We dressed up as pandas for the local marriage equality protest to have a little fun and to stay warm. Yes, marriage and equality is a serious business but we still like to have fun and who doesn’t love a panda?
Here were are posing with a Defend Equality poster designed by Shepard Fairey, who designed the famous Obama Hope print. Thanks to Steamworks for printing them.
People loved the signs and I’ve got more that I’ll bring to the monthly organizing meeting of the Gay Liberation Network on Wednesday, December 3 – 7 – 9 PM at the Gerber Hart Library, 1127 W. Granville Street, Chicago (just ½ block west of the “Granville” Red Line el stop). Come and get involved in your rights!
Join us as we chat about Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin talking turkey while a gruesome scene right out of Fargo unfolds in the background, beer that saves lives but tastes nasty, Jerusalem syndrome in Asian zoos, Tracy’s new European flavored sex adventures and Michael Jackson converts to Islam. Has the King of Pop traded in his sequined glove for a burqua?
Plus, we’ve got new t-shirts out! Check out our lovely Feast of Fools “Celebration” Red on Black t-shirts. They are printed in discharge inks (so it’s part of the garment) which have a cool, comfy fuzzy feel. Limited run, order yours now for the holidays.
